Good morning from my Mourning Chair. And…good morning from “Grace’s Message”, my “company.” I can barely call it a company, as I am a sole proprietor and don’t conduct much real business. (Although I am now gainfully employed, taking minutes and setting up the video calls for our association once a month.)
Furthermore, I am not a nonprofit organization, so please don’t send me large amounts of cash, thinking you can deduct it from your taxes. (Ha-Ha) I fall under the category of a for-profit, which has not exactly come to fruition (although I may be in the black this year for the first time since I started this venture in 2018).
What’s up with the Name “Grace’s Message?”
One reason I chose this name is that “Nancy” means “grace.” (It can also mean “graceful,” but I don’t exactly meet that definition.) Another reason I chose this name is that I endeavor to share grace with my books, speaking, and writing.
Here’s my blurb about Grace’s Message:
Meanings of “Grace”
As I pondered this, I wondered about all the other meanings of “grace.” So I cheated, I asked AI. (Before you sit in judgement of me, we all use AI every day; if we use Google or another search engine, depend on navigation on our phones, have a robot vacuum, or even use settings on newer household appliances. Our new washer and dryer sing to us when they are done, and the dryer remembers the setting on the washer.)
GRACE:
Divine Favor, unmerited favor from God; a gift of love and mercy freely given.
"By grace you have been saved..." (Ephesians 2:8)
Elegance or Beauty in movement or form. (i.e. graceful.)
Prayer of Thanks Before a Meal - saying grace.
Courtesy or Kindness - polite, generous, or considerate behavior, especially under pressure. "He handled the criticism with grace."
Period of Extra Time - "The bill comes with a five-day grace period."
Favor or Privilege - A special blessing or benefit granted to someone. "She received the grace of early release."
A Title of Respect - A formal way to address nobility or clergy. "Your Grace, the Archbishop will see you now."
Moral Strength or Virtue - Inner beauty, integrity, or character that shines through. "He showed grace in forgiving his enemy."
Aesthetic Excellence - "The sculpture had a classical grace."
A Godly Aid to Live Well (Christian Doctrine) - The empowering presence of God to live righteously and do His will. "Grace gives strength to persevere in trials."
Wow! Who’d have thought? Or as my friend Christine says, “Who’d have thunk?”
Best Use of the Word Grace:
Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
